G.C.E ‘O’ Level Laboratory Practical Science Course Programme
Introduction
The laboratory practical component forms a compulsory assessment for every student taking the pure or combined Science. The weighting for combined Science subjects [(Physics/Chemistry), (Physics/Biology), (Chemistry/Biology)] constitutes 15% and the weighting for Pure Science subjects (Physics, Biology and Chemistry) constitutes 20% as shown in the following tabulations:-

The main thrust of our laboratory practical science programme is geared towards providing and training the learners to acquire a conceptual understanding of the essential theoretical knowledge which are necessary to perform the laboratory experiments competently and confidently. |
We have structured and aligned our curriculum to incorporate recent-and past-year University of Cambridge GCE ‘O’ level examination model papers with essential notes on theoretical background knowledge accompanied with knowledge- and laboratory techniques-based questions.
Our training facilities include experimental Physics, Biology and Chemistry laboratories which are user-friendly and conducive for learning and performing laboratory scientific experiments and analyses.
Full technical support is also provided during the whole duration of every laboratory practical session.
Synopses of Course Modules
Practical Physics (Pure/Combined)
|
This module will provide both theoretical and experimental knowledge on techniques used in basic physical science topics such as Measurement Physics, Newtonian Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Optical (Light) Physics, Electricity and Magnetism. In this course, students would learn and acquire essential data-processing skills (such as plotting a best-fit straight-line graph).
|
Practical Chemistry (Pure/Combined)
|
This module will develop the practical abilities of the student and the ability to record and interpret experimental data/results. This course also reinforces the importance of an appreciation of the theoretical principles underlying the procedures. This Areas covered include qualitative analysis (identification of ions and gases, tests for reducing and oxidising agents).
|
Practical Biology (Pure/Combined)
|
This interesting course will expose students to a highly-varied list of bio-scientific experiments ranging from (just to name a few) testing for food nutrients in full-cream milk, poulty eggs, examining & recording the observational differences between an unriped green banana & a fully-ripen yellow banana to examining & recording the observational differences in sexual reproductive structures between a wind-pollinated flower and an insect-pollinated flower. This course will also provide notes on essential theoretical knowledge to link them with the practical procedure and observations and to aid in the answering of knowledge- and laboratory techniques-based questions.
