English Course – Speaking, Listening and Writing
Whenever you need to communicate clearly at school, work or sometimes just find it hard to get your point across to your friends or colleagues, taking this course will help you improve the essential speaking, listening and writing skills that you use every day.
You want to learn to listen carefully, to ask and get information and advice or to become a better speaker. Perhaps you want to improve your writing skills to take notes or to tell others how you feel.
Come and sign up for this course and our practice questions will help you. When your skills improve, your confidence level will improve too. There will be a lot of role – play in this course.

Lesson 1: Game
Successful conversation – Small Talk
Introduction of yourself.

Lesson 2: Writing about your Best Friend – use of expressing opinions, descriptive adjectives, comparatives and superlatives and reported speech.
Conversation practice: At a Restaurant and Taking an order.
Speaking skills: By asking questions.
Making a telephone conversation.
Asking for a flavor and dropping by a friend’s house.
Lesson 3: Writing: exercises: Your Zodiac Sign and Yourself.
Never mind about believing in Zodiac Sign or not. This Zodiac sign exercise gives us a great opportunity to increase our vocabulary on personality and character adjectives. We use Zodiac Signs for students to talk about themselves. Students will improve their vocabulary in this active and fun way.
Speaking exercises: Showing Interest, At the chemist’s, At the doctor’s, At the post office.
Lesson 4: Discussion: The Law and the Crime, Shoplifting.
The students form groups to discuss this topic. Encourage students to share ‘their secrets’ as to whether they have steal things before. Get students to share if they knew anyone who shoplift and what these people like to steal. Students must debate if this action is right or wrong.
Role-cards to be handled out to students and each student must speak out their views on the role-cards
Speaking exercise: Buying things, social expression and telephoning.
Lesson 5: All about Travel
Calling your travel agent, crossword puzzle on travel, vocabulary words on travel, Freeze ball game and Mr Bean in Room 426.
Your holidays – Write an email to your friend and tell him/her about your recent holidays.
Lesson 6: Patient vs Doctor:
Group the students into two groups – Patient and Doctor. Make one student a patient and the other a doctor. Cut the card and give to the students and they must not read each other’s card. Ask students to write out possible short dialogues to describe their illness to their doctor. The doctor will write dialogues to advise patients on their health problems.
Write an email to your teacher or boss and tell him/her you cannot attend school or go to work because you are ill. Tell him/her about your illness and symptoms.
Lesson 7: Discussion on Men and Women – Equal at Last?
Divide into men and women. This exercise helps to improve conversation skills using point of view methods. Use of agreeing words such as I think..., In my opinion..., I'd like to..., I'd rather..., I'd prefer..., The way I see it..., As far as I'm concerned..., If it were up to me..., I suppose..., I suspect that..., I'm pretty sure that..., It is fairly certain that..., I'm convinced that..., I honestly feel that, I strongly believe that..., Without a doubt,...,
Use of disagreeing words such as: I don't think that..., Don't you think it would be better..., I don't agree, I'd prefer..., Shouldn't we consider..., But what about..., I'm afraid I don't agree..., Frankly, I doubt if..., Let's face it, The truth of the matter is..., The problem with your point of view is that...
You may give reason and explanation words such as: To start with, The reason why..., That's why..., For this reason..., That's the reason why..., Many people think...., Considering..., Allowing for the fact that..., When you consider that...
